Skyrim Special Edition – ‘My Creation’ Interview: Arthmoor
Skyrim Special Edition launched just last week, and already the game has seen plenty of modders upgrading their projects for the remastered release of the game.
Among those is Southern California native Roger Libiez – pronounced "lee-bee" – who is best known for his “Unofficial” patches for both The Elder Scrolls and Fallout Series.
Given his fantastic contributions to Bethesda modding (and his passion for collecting dragon statues) we thought he’d be a great choice for our first post-launch Creation Kit interview.
What's it like coming back to working on Mods for Skyrim?
I'm not sure I can say I really left. Although I've slowed down on new stuff, I've been pretty active in keeping up on improvements and fixes to the mod library I've already built. Most of that attention is continuing to focus on the unofficial patch.

During our Closed Beta for Skyrim Special Edition Mods, you were awfully busy uploading Mods. Any recommendations for where fans should start?
Aside from obviously recommending they use the unofficial patch, I'd say the two biggest things fans are already really excited about are my Alternate Start mod and the Open Cities mod. Those two mods, while they seem simple enough, actually change the game dynamics a lot more than people realize. So I'd say those would be the big go-tos to start off with.

Are you still working on bringing more mods over?
I still have several more lined up to bring over. I was hoping to get them all in place before the launch but what I have left needs to be checked for conflicts with all of the awesome new ground cover you guys have put in.
With the release of Skyrim Special Edition, are you planning any new projects? Care to share what’s on the docket?
I have some more village expansions in the works and a couple of potentially much larger projects that aren't really far enough along to talk about just yet.
Is it exciting for you to know that a larger base of Elder Scrolls fans will have an opportunity try out your mods?
Very much so! I'm happy a whole new group of people are going to be enjoying the things we've all had for years. From the look of the posts so far on the new sections of the site, they're just as excited as we are for the opportunity. It's definitely been a long time coming and I'm glad they'll have this chance.

For console players, do you have any recommendations/tips on how to best provide feedback on projects?
Above all, be respectful when providing feedback. Mod authors will definitely be of a mind to respond favorably as long as the comments aren't rude.
If it's about a possible bug, provide as many details as possible. Not all of us who are porting mods have ready access to consoles to be able to do testing on so we may be relying on the fact that our mods work fine on PC and have no idea what kind of platform specific issues can come up.
If it's at all possible, providing these kinds of comments on a forum the author frequents may be more beneficial. The commenting system on Bethesda.net is adequate enough for shorter things but detailed posts are likely to be buried quickly. The author's official RELz post on the forums is probably ideal.

For fans looking to get started with working on Mods, what would you recommend?
Read up on as much information as you can find. The CK wiki is a great starting point with the tutorials and reference material. Don't get in over your head. Start with something small to get the feel for how things work. By all means, dream big, but also plan well. One of the worst things you can do is jump in trying to do some grand sweeping overhaul to how everything works without having a plan on how to approach it or knowing how stuff works.
Before long it will become easier to do the things you really want done. All you need is patience and time to learn.
